Tzedakah is a basic Jewish act of charitable giving, and making donations to various Temple funds is a special way to say thank you, to honor someone on a special occasion, to memorialize a loved one, or just to express gratitude for health, love and friendship.

The following is a list of funds available to you for tzedakah opportunities while enriching the life of our congregation. When you send a contribution to a specific fund, please be sure to indicate the fund to which your donation should apply.

Discretionary & General Temple israel Funds

Living Our History Fund for Human Rights - To support educational programs, speakers and events to combat antisemitism as well as all forms of hate.

Rabbi Jaech's Discretionary Fund - For use at the Rabbi’s discretion for emergency help for individuals, for special projects in the Temple, and for special causes in the community and in the wider world.

Rabbi Ferris' Discretionary Fund – For use at the Rabbi’s discretion for emergency help for individuals, for special projects in the Temple, and for special causes in the community and in the wider world.

Rabbi Polish's Discretionary Fund - For use at the Rabbi’s discretion for emergency help for individuals, for special projects in the Temple, and for special causes in the community and in the wider world.

General Fund – For use wherever needed in the work of our Temple. Money can be designated for a special gift for the Temple. Ideas for such gifts should be discussed with the Rabbi and/or Temple President. The Executive Committee acts as the Gift Acceptance Committee.

Building Fund – Provides for improvements and enhancements of all Temple Israel of Northern Westchester facilities.

Youth Oriented Funds

Center for Jewish Learning/Religious School Enhancement Fund – To enrich the CJL program by providing special programs and materials beyond what the budget can provide.

Rabbi Helene Ferris' Scholarship Fund – Created with funds from Rabbi Ferris’s retirement party. Scholarships are available to help families with religious school education expenses.

Rebecca Rosenblatt's Leadership Fund – Established in memory of a member of one of our founding families. This fund sends young people of our congregation to conclaves to enable them to expand their studies and experiences in Judaism with young people of other temples.

Eidelson Early Childhood Enrichment Fund – Provides funding for our Tot and Kindergarten Enrichment Program.

David and Marvin Gimprich's Scholarship Fund – Established by the family of David Gimprich, this fund makes it possible for youngsters from our congregation to visit, work, or study in Israel. Scholarships are awarded once a year, in the spring.

Youth Group Activities Fund – Provides funding for our Junior and Senior Youth Groups.

Temple israel Program Funds

Adult Education Fund – To sponsor teachers, speakers and special events that will enrich Jewish education at the Temple.

MARS (Michael A. Robinson Scholar-in-Residence) – Named in honor of Rabbi Michael A. Robinson, this is an endowment fund to provide an annual Scholar-in-Residence weekend at our Temple.

Burdick Library Fund – Established in memory of members of our congregation, Lou and Sidney Burdick, the fund purchases books, Jewish music & videos for the Burdick Library at Temple Israel.

Joel Robinson Social Justice Fund – Named in honor of Joel Robinson, son of Rabbi Michael and Ruth Robinson, this fund provides money to improve our knowledge of issues where Judaism needs to be put into action.

Caring Committee Fund – Helps provide support to Temple Israel members during times of crisis.

Music Enrichment Fund – Supports special music programs at the Temple, enriching our worship services, commemorating special occasions, and increasing our understanding and enjoyment of Jewish music. 

Reach For Our Tomorrow Legacy Fund – Supports the ideals, purposes and values of Temple Israel with visionary programming that enables our Jewish future. For more information, click here. 

Temple israel Ritual Funds

Prayer Book Fund – Provides for the purchase of new prayer books, Mishkan Tefilah or Mishkan Hanefesh ($50 per book).  Please call the Temple Office 914.271.4705 x121 for additional details.

Judaica Fund –  Purchases Judaica items for use in Temple Israel's ritual observance.

Sanctuary Improvement Fund –  Improves and beautifies the sanctuary.

MEMORIALS AND HONORARIUMS

Tree of Life – A leaf on the Tree of Life in our entrance hall is a wonderful way to honor a special life event; e.g., your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah or someone special in your life ($180/leaf).

Engraved Bricks – Help us "pave" the way for Temple Israel's future. Become part of the history and future. Purchase an engraved brick as part of our redesigned walkway and view the brick designs here.

Memorial Plaque – A plaque on our memorial tablet may be dedicated in memory of a loved one  ($480 per plaque).

Sponsor an Oneg – Provide the Oneg following a Friday Shabbat service for your fellow congregants to honor a special person or life event ($118/Oneg).
