Social Justice
How Can I Make a Difference?
You are not required to complete the work, but neither are you at liberty to abstain from it. (Pirkei Avot 2:21)
It is easy to feel powerless given all that is broken in our world. But we believe that each person can and
should make a difference. Temple Israel offers a variety of ways to help you make a difference in the
lives of others, whether you have hours to give or just minutes. See below for some of the opportunities we offer.
Justice circles
Powered by the Religious Action Center (RAC), Justice Circles are small groups that join together on a regular basis, virtually or in-person, to learn, share ideas, take action in solidarity with the most vulnerable, and build power so that all can have a say in the decisions that impact our lives. Working together, we can strengthen our democracy and act on our shared values to pursue immigrant justice, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ equality, and other urgent issues. From lively discussions to hands-on activities, Justice Circles are where the magic happens. We plan to get started in September 2025 and will be sending out reminders once we set a date.
For more information Contact Chris Kelley, Chair OR Ed Ginsberg, President.
Green Light NY project
Temple Israel of Northern Westchester worked with the New York Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, RAC-NY, a network of over 30 congregations across the state, to support state legislation that is socially just and reflective of Jewish values. Learn more here.
